Sunday 11th March 2018 is Mother’s Day in the UK this year

Mum is everyone’s favourite Heroine, in whatever era, and I could not think of a better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than with a giveaway of a hardback copy of Heroines of the Medieval World.

About Heroines of the Medieval World

Heroines come in many different forms, and it is no less true for medieval heroines. They can be found in all areas of medieval life; from the dutiful wife and daughter to religious devotees, warriors and rulers. What makes them different compared to those of today are the limitations placed on them by those who directed their lives – their fathers, husbands, priests and kings. Women have always been an integral part of history, although when reading through the chronicles of the medieval world, you would be forgiven if you did not know it. We find that the vast majority of written references are focussed on men. The chronicles were written by men and, more often than not, written for men. It was men who ruled countries, fought wars, made laws and treaties, dominated religion and guaranteed – or tried to guarantee – the continued survival of their world. It was usually the men, but not all of them, who could read, who were trained to rule and who were expected to fight, to defend their people and their country…

        I have not time for books as fourteen hours a day I am on the computer blogging. The Book does have significance and there are readers of my blog who are deeply interested in women’s issues who could avail themselves to the offer.

    I just read this post somewhere else.. and was surprised to find out that Mother’s Day in the UK is in March.. My mother is no longer alive and I am going on 76… I have however my mother to thank for my love of reading and my love of history comes from my english and history teacher.. one and the same woman.. I read why you wrote the book of Medieval Women.. and thought that you are so right.. history books are usually written about the men.. never about the women.. Oh it would be so so lovely to win one of your books here in Canada.. afterwards I could donate it to my local library for their collection! One never knows whose interest is won for a subject such as this.. AND it would be in a very small town in the country here in Canada! Your book would not be lost in the depths of this country where I came now 50 yrs ago! Further? I wish you many more books to write!

    I would very much like to go in the hat for this book that gives us fascinating insight to “Strong Women” This term comes from my lovely daughter in law who reads extensively on a more contemporary timeline. My Mom and myself share this passion on a more historical level but it brings all 3 of us together to share and enjoy the stories of women that give us inspiration and hope. My mom only reads “book” books she likes the way they feel in her hands. I cannot get this hard copy until May here in the US , how amazing if I could win the hat and have it for her. Thanks to you for writing this book!

    I would love a copy of this book! I believe two of my direct ancestors are included: Fair Maid of Kent and Joan of Acre, thanks to a man named Littleton who came to the Virginia Colony.
